Picking and testing your microphone

Which device to use, how much volume to give it and how to be sure the other side hears you.

Set it up before talking

  1. Click the gear, on the bottom bar (or press Ctrl + ,).

  2. Open the Voice and video tab.

  3. Under Microphone, pick the device from the list.

  4. Click Turn the microphone on and talk: the bar has to move. If it does not, the device is the wrong one or the browser has blocked the microphone.

  5. Adjust the input gain if you speak too softly or clip. It goes from 0% to 200% and works inside Concordia — your microphone volume in the Windows settings is never touched.

  6. Under Sound output, pick where you want to listen and click Test sound. The test goes out through the same path as the conversation, at the master volume you chose.

  7. If you need to, turn echo cancellation and noise suppression on or off. Suppression has two modes: the standard one, the browser’s own, and the advanced one by artificial intelligence, which runs on your computer and holds back a fan or a keyboard.

Changing device mid-conversation

Changing microphone takes effect right away, even in the middle of a conversation. If the device is yanked out, Concordia falls back to the system default and tells you — it never goes silently mute.
